The Evening Mail. WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE NEW ZEALAND AGRICULTURIST. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1878.

A meeting of the North Otago Turf Club Committee will be held this evening at the Empire Hotel, for the purpose of receiving acceptances and general entries for the forthcoming races. All claims against the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association must be sent in by 11 a.m. on Thursday next. The Secretary requests that prize-takers at the late Show will intimate as soon as possible whether they will take medals or cash for their prizes. Canvassers for subscriptions are also requested to send in their returns with the amounts obtained, as soon as possible. Those interested should bear in mind that applications for the position of valuer to the Waiareka Road Board must be sent in not later than to-morrow. Applications for a similar office must be forwarded to the Clerk of the Otepopo Road Board on or before the 29th inst. The usual monthly meeting of the Waiareka Road Board will be held in the offices, Tyne-street, to-morrow, at 11 a.m. We are informed by the Secretary of the Oamaru Cricket Club that the idea of playing a match with the Timaru Club on Saturday next has been abandoned at the instigation of the Oamaru Club, in consequence of the inconvenience to members of the Oamaru team of the time fixed. A more convenient arrangement will probably be made to play the match as early as possible. We have very much pleasure in referring our readers to a communicated article signed "Artis Amor" in another column of this evening's issue. It reaches us opportunely, as the annual gathering of the Otago Art Society will be held early in December at Dunedin. It gives us all the more pleasure to afford it a place in our pages because the artist whose works form the subject of this communication (Mr. Edward A. Clifford) is now a resident amongst us.
