CHRISTCHURCH. November 25,

A grand concert is to be given on Thursday, in aid of the fund for providing a Christinas treat for the children in the Orphanage. The body of the young man Lough, who was drowned in the estuary early this -mouth, was recovered this morning. It was caught in the net of two fishermen. Edward Jerningham Wakefield was charged with stealing flowers from the Domain this morning, and fined 40s. His excuse was that ho had taken them to give to a nurso in the Hospital who had been kind to him. Richard Lewin, a surveyor to the Government office, who was charged with assaulting tho keeper of the Botanical Gardens this 'morning, made a public apology, and was discharged on paying costs. AUCKLAND. November 25. Father Hennebcrry's mission was attended by 3500 persons. It is understood that Messrs. Conycrs and Lawson have reported favorably of the inland route of the Kaipara line, Thjs gives general satisfaction to settlers.

At about.s p.m., Rewi, his wife, arid children were driven into town from Waitara, and afterwards Taonui, one of the principal chiefs of the tribe, who with his wife was driven in by Mr. Walker, of Auckland. They put up at Cottier's Masonic Hotel, and Mr. Sheehan invited the Mayor of the place to meet him there. On assembling, Mr. Sheehan asked Mr. Paris to drink the health of Rewi, which he did ; and Rewi replied that he could not speak out his thoughts on the impulse of the moment. He had only just arrived in town, and could not collect his thoughts to make a speech at any length, but would drink to their health, and welcomed him to New Plymouth. Rewi and Taonui, and their families, go to the Star Pantomime Company to-night, and leave by train for Waitara in the morning. Mr. Sheehan will likely be here till Friday. Rewi and other natives were invited by Mr. Standish to his house to tea, where they went, and from there proceeded to the theatre. BALCLUTHA. November 25. The Hons. John Macandrew and Fisher, accompanied by Capt. Fraser, Mr. Thomson, M.H.R., Mr. Blair (Engineer for the Middle Island), and others, visited Balclutha to-day. Ministers received a deputation from the Borough Council, County Councils of Bruce and the Clutha, Board of Conservators for Inch Clutha, River-bank Protection Committee, and the Atheuajum Committee. Ministers inspected the township, and expressed much sympathy with the sufferers through the flood. From what transjrired at the interview, it is believed the Government will carry out the river protection works, and the Counties of Bruce and Clutha will unite to erect a bridge, the Government giving the money on loan for five yeare without interest. Nothing is decided oil with regard to Inch Clutha until the engineer reports. Luncheon was provided in the Crown Hotel, at the expense of the Corporation, when the usual toasts were proposed and responded to. Mr. Macandrew and party left por special train for Dunedin at 3.30.
