It turns out that Stewart, the railway employee, was not assaulted at all, but fell off the train.

The search party for the missing man Leonard Duncan has just returned, having discovered the remains about 100 yards distant from where the clothes were found on Sunday. The remains were discovered with the body buried in a swamp from the knees downwards. The unfortunate man apparently having endeavored to cross, but sinking in the swamp, was too weak to extricate himself.
