The Hon. J. T. Fisher, Postmaster-General and Mr. W. Gray. Secretary of the Postal Department, were passengers by the express train to-day from Christehureb. They proceeded to Dunedin by the same train, en route for Balelutha and invereargill. 'i'liey will return next wee!;. The meeting of the Committee of the Xorth Otago Turf Club called for Saturday evening did not eventuate as a suflicient number of members did not attend to enable the business to lie proceeded with. The meeting was therefore adjourned until this evening, and it is particularly requested that, there will be a full attendance, as some important business is to lie brought forward. A deputation from Hampden having waited on Mr. Grant at the railway olfiees in Dtmedin, praying that ho would permit the people of the Moeraki district, to travel north by the mid-day goods train, as at present there was only one train a day to Oamaru from Hampden, we understand that the manager conceded the point to the ! deputation. it iias been decided to proceed with the additions to the Hampden Schoolhouse at once. \Ve are glad to hear of it, as the accommodation lias for some time back been very limited. VVe have much pleasure in informing our numerous well-wishers and subscribers iu Hampden and its neighborhood that we have made arrangements with Mr. J. Prcsland for the delivery of the Hvenini; Mau. in their midst. Mr. Prcsland, in under- ; taking to distribute the Mail by horsemen in all directions, has conferred a benefit 011 us which we feel ."lire will be reciprocated by our subscribers in the Hampden district. We are pleased to learn that every ell'ort is being made to render the Philharmonic Society's next concert even more successful than its predecessors. The programme is to consist of "The Messiah," which will be given in its entirety at Christmas, for the first time inOamaru. The work of presenting Handel's masterpiece is a very heavy one for any society to undertake, but the Oamaru Society appear determined to place the oratorio before the public in a complete form, and have arranged to obtain the valuable aid of the Timaru Society on the occasion. In return for this kindness, a number of members of the Oamaru Philharmonic Society will assist at the Timaru Society's concert 011 the 111 th December. Members of the Philharmonic Society will meet for practice at eight o'clock to-morrow evenim/, in the Waitaki Hall. Owing to the "Royal Marionettes not having received their properties until late on Saturday evening, they were unable to give their opening entertainment that evening. They will, however, positively appear this evening, when, from what we can gather from those who have witnessed the entertainment, a pleasant evening's amusement will be offered. A special meeting of the Waitaki Road Board is called for to-morrow, for the purpose of opening applications for the otliee of valuer for the district.
