The gale of yesterday seems to have been pretty general, and was felt with great severity on the Canterbury plains. The progress of the trains was impeded, and it was considered risky crossing over the several bridges en route, which were traversed with exceeding carefulness. It appears that our statement that the framework of Mr. Otterson's new house had suffered sadly through yesterday's high winds is incorrect, and as it is considered to be damaging to the architects and builders engaged in the work of planning and constructing Mr. Otterson's house, we hasten to correct the blunder. The Waitaki County Council invites applications for the position of ranger in the Papakaio Riding.
