TIMARU. (From to-day's Timaru Herald.) Wheat is slowly hardening, but farmers do not seem yet inclined to dispose of their last season's stocks. We hear of 4s 3d having been obtained by one merchant for a good large parcel, but 3s lOd is the nominal price between farmers and merchants. Oats continue in strong demand at from 3s lOd to 4s 2d ; while from 5s 9d to Gs is freely offered for prime malting barley. Some little time since it was rumored that a corn exchange was to be started in Timaru, but if there was any foundation for it, nothing has come of the movement. We hope, however, that some of our farmers will soon take the matter actively in hand. J «
