WAIAREKA ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of this Board was held to-day, when there were present—Messrs. John Reid (in the chair), Gilchrist, Isdale, Jackson, Rainforth, Evans, and Oliver (Engineer). Messrs. R. Oliver, M.H.R., and Dennison (Surveyor), waited upon the Board with reference to tiie exchange of road-lines in the Corriedale, and urged that the Board would approve of the proposed new roads in preference to those shown on the Government survey maps. They pointed out that the estate was to be broken u;> and disposed of in smaller blocks, and that the would afford better access to the property. They also urged that in consequence of the sub-division of the estate the Board would receive a larger amount of revenue. After hearing the Board's Engineer, it was resolved, That the members for the Windsor subdivision and the Engineer should inspect the proposed roads and report a?: to the advisability of agreeing to the exchanges applied for ; and it was decided that the sub-committee should meet at Corriedale on Monday next, at half-i>ast nine o'clock. The deputation then thanked the Board and withd ew. The Board's Solicitor having given the opinion that it would be necessary for the Board to appoint a valuator for the coming year, it was decided to advertise for applications for the position, to be opened at the next ordinary meeting of the Board. A coirml.'iii?t having been received from the Inspector of Roads that certain persons had left two dead bullocks on the coal-pit road, and that they were in a very offensive state and a great nuisance to the public, it was resolved that notice be sent to Messrs. M'Auly intimating that if they did not at once take steps to bury tiie animals, proceedings would be instituted asjaiust them. The Board then rose.
