NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The following particulars have been supplied to us by Quarter-master Sergt. King, the local member of the Executive Committee of the National Rifle Association of New Zealand, which we publish for general information. An application was made to the Government to ascertain whether members of the Association going to, or returning from, the meeting at Nelson would be conveyed free over the Government railways. The Public Works Department have replied that free

Stevens, Wellington), who is to submit all such claims to the Executive Committee, with a new to ascertaining what proportion (if not the whole) should be refunded out of the money voted by the General Assembly. Application has been made to the Government to allow members to purchase rifles and carbines out of the Govenment Store. This application has been approved. Intending members requiring rifles or carbines, should make known their requirements to Mr. King, who will forward the list to Wellington. The prices of both are reasonable. Application lias also been made for ammunition to be used at the competition at Nelson. This has also been approved. The Secretary is at present negotiating with the Union Steam Company, and expects to make very satisfactory terms for passages by that Company's boats. The Government has agreed to hand over to the Association all the tents, targets, belts, and other colonial prize-firing equipment when asked to do so. The Legislature has voted L2OOO, out of which substantial pecuniary assistance will be given to the Association. The ground selected for the range is a few miles out of Nelson on a dead level; fire into a hill direction N.W. to S.E. over 1000 yards, and a stream of clear water for bathing, &c, running by the camp ground. The rail was' station is also at the camp. We express the hope that our local men will go in for steady practice and do their utmost to uphold the honor of the district. All intending to join should do so speedily, as until a number of members are enrolled the executive cannot arrange their matches and prizelist. Names of such will be received by MiKing and forwarded to Wellington forthwith, and any further information required he will also supply on application.
