OAMARU SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

A special meeting of the Schools Committee was held last evening at the Secretary's office. There were present —Messrs. Steward (Chairman), N. Fleming, Evans, Gibbs, Falconer, and Hardy (Secretary). Mr D. Fleming (master of the North School) was also present, and verbally suggested certain changes in the staff of the school under his charge. The Committee requested Mr. Fleming to put his report into writing, in order that it might be forwarded to the Education Board with the Committee's report thereon. This Mr. Fleming consented to do and then withdrew.

The Sub-Committee appointed to inspect probable sites for a new South School reported as follows ; Your Committee have inspected sections S, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 15, block LXXY., under offer ; also municipal section 11, same block, and section 12, same block, also under offer.

Your Committee report that the whole of the eight sections, forming a compact block of 2 acres, could be acquired provided the Commissioners of Educational Reserves can arrange with the Municipal Corporation for the exchange with them of another section, of equal value, for section 11 ; and in that case believe the block would be the best selection that could be made for a site for the new South School. The laud is of c-asy access, streets running past it oil both sides, straight to the township of South Oamaru.

Your Committee have seen one or two sections as good as any of those above referred to, but the whole block, for size, convenience, and ready access, has no rival, and they think it should be secured at once. Your Committee further think the price asked very reasonable.

Neil Flejiixg, ) Samuel Gibus, > Sub-Committee. John Hardy, \ On the motion of Mr. Falconer, seconded by Mr. Evans, it was resolved—"That the thanks of the Committee be recorded for the trouble taken by the Sub-Committee, that their report be adopted and forwarded to the Education Board, with a strong recommendation that it be at once acted upon. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
