HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held last evening, when the following members were presmt Messrs. T. H. Brown (President, in the chair), Lemon, Headland, Montagu, Townsend, Mainland, K-rr, Paterson, Jones. S'ewavd. and Church (Secretary).

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Treasurer's report was also read and adopted.

The Visiting Committee's report was ■is follows :

To the Chairman of the Committee of the Oamaru District Hospital. October 15. 1878.

Sir, —Your Visiting Committee beg to submit the following report for the present mor.th :

Tiny report having paid their usual vi-.it of inspection to _the Hospi'a\ and as might be expected at the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, found everything in good order, and the house scrupulously chan.

There are at present i'i the buildings 6 lmle and 1 female patients. Your Committee recommend that a dray road lie formed from front to back, round the southern winir, and that a drain be cons'rncted around the southern corner tt• carry oft* the storm water. They desire to point out the necessity of a blanket, wardrobe, and they would su<«test. to j'ou that the Building Committee be empowered to employ the carpenters at present on the 'mil-ling to cmiS'ruet one, w'-ich could be done.at comparatively ii-tit! expense. Thev submit accounts aggregating L 39 B'. 101. Your Committee, in conclusion, have pleasure in informing you that the trees Intel v presented to the Hospital atvthriving well. Alex. Kert?,- - D. S. Mr. Mainland said that the B tilding Committee, finding it necessary to do so in order to carry off the water from the building, were having the road mentioned in the report formed. The cost would be trifling while it would be a great conV'.'nu-ncß. The report was adopted, and the Building Committee empowered to have tiu■mprnvements therein mentioned carried out.

Accounts, as submitted by the Visiting Committee, amounting to L 39 Bs. 10.1., .were passed, fi-r payment. Mr. Mainland stated that the new ward was fast approaching completion, and said he thought it would be advisable to have the inner walls painted as soon as possible, the painting of the outer,walls, to

remajn : until,. the .Stbne -was thoroughly dry.

The. BiriWing Committee was o empowered to make : the necessary arrangements fur painting the- inner walls of the new ward.

A letter in- the form of a will, from a patient named George Robertson who di d rec'tly in the Hospital, was read, b qee» thing a w a fell and certain personal propel ty to Mr. George Ottoway, Waimate. It was decided to forward the prop rty to the Rev. Mr. Coates, of Waimate, with a request, to hand the same to the dv ; see, and at the same time to point out to Mr.-Ottoway that as the deceased had heen in the Hospital sinca May list, and had paid no maintenance money, and ''■• d been buried at the expense of the Institution, lie, as the recipient of all the late patient's property, s.iould hand a su' sc iption to the. The Pres dent mentioned that having entirely run out of copies of the rules of the —Hospital,-- he-.Jiad_Jiaj|_ji number printed; with a Jist of the subscribers attached.} He proposed that copies of these should be forwarded, to subscribers. The action of the President was endorsed, and after a vote of thanks to the Chairman the meeting terminated.
