[from our own correspondent.] DUNEDIN. October 16. At Sterling the water has fallen half a foot since yesterday, The people have gone back to their houses. The bridge there is quite safe. Sir J. Vogel writes thanking the Council for its telegram and thanks re his defence of the city loan, He regards it as a distinguished compliment and mark of atteur tion. Another pier of the Balclutha bridge was carried away last night.
