The formation of Ti-l-street to its permanent level, and to the full width of tiGft., with footpaths complete, would cost probably L2OOO. " 2. If the street were partially formed and the cuttings only taken out 25ft. wide, the cost would be, say LIOOO, or as detailed out in estimate attached. " 3. " Usk-street.—That the footpath be formed a* f*r M Francis-street on the south side, and on the north side from Thames to Humber-strect, to its proper level" Councillor Procter brought before the Council the necessity for taking steps to compel the owner of the land in Itchen-street, where the late fatal accident occurred to place a fence above the embankment, in order to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents. The .Mayor quoted from the Acts of Parliament to show that the Council had the power, in the event of the owner or lessee of the laud refusing to carry out tiie work after receiving notice, to put up the fence, and sue for the recovery of the amount. Alter some discussion, it was resolved to trive the occupier (.Mr. William Glass) notice to fence in th.laml within seven days, with a post and rail fence wit): th;-"<- wires, and that, failing his compliance with the order, the work would be performed by the Council at ths.^peusc. it was also resolved. That the. Reserves Committee report ;us to any other places within the town which it is necessary to fence, for the public safety. The Council then rose.
