September 20. There is a talk about a now theatre being erected by a small company. His Honor Judge Johnston proceeds to Dnnedin to sit in- Ihuu'u with Sir. Justice Williams. The Medical Officer of Health to-day reported only one case of typhoid fever, the smallest number yet reported since the existence of the Board of Health. September 21. .Alexander Moritiz, an Austrian, and master or the ketch Minnie, was arrested this morning charged with stabbing a seaman on board of his vessel in the face and shoulders. The prosecutor not being present the case was remanded. GISBORNE. September 20. The two prisoners in the Waiapu murder case have been committed for trial at Wellington. Inspector Scully starts tonight for Waiapu, taking with him a surveyor to draw out plans of the locality of the murder. WESTPORT. September 21. In making the survey o| a new road at Mohikuni, in Buller County, the surveyor struck a coal seam five feet thick, two miles from the township. The coal is bituminous and of excellent quality.

It is easily accessible, and may be brought I to port at a small cost.
