4, __ THIS RAY. (Before His Honor District Judifc 'Ward.) CRIMINAL CASE. His Honor took his seat on the Bench at 11 a.m. CUTTING AXD WOCNDINCi. Frank Hansal, alias Thompson, was indicted with having on the 12th August, at Papakaio, unlawfully cut and wounded one Andrew Henderson, Mr. Jamieson (f>£ Timaru), in the absence of lylr. White, appeared to prosecute The prisoner, who was undefended, pleaded Guilty. Prisoner called Thomas Eaker as to character. Mr. Baker said he had known the prisoner for three or four years, and that beyond the fact that he at times exhibited a little quickness of. temper, he (witness) did not know anything against Hansal. He at times got under the influence of liquor, and witness believed he was in that state when, tie offence was committed, Prisoner said ho hoped his Honor would take into consideration the fact that he had already been in gaol five weeks. His Honor said he did not think it a case for a severe sentence. It was quite possible that, the wound was inflicted unintentionally. It appeared from the depositions that the prosecutq? wag in the act of striking prisoner when, the. wound was infliqted ; both men appeared to be under -jihe influence of driflfcat the time, ]t±e would sentence to six weeks' imprisonment with hard labor. IN BANKRUPTCY. In re John Peattie—On the application of Mr. Balmer his Honor made an order for the discharge of the bankrupt. In re Stephen Joseph Bradbury —ln this case the bankrupt, who had not employed a solicitor, had not complied with the forms of the Court, and the application for an order for the final discharge was adjourned.
In re .**& Middeditch—On the application •£,< rftr. O'Meagher, an order wu granted lor the bankrupt's discharge. The Court then adjourned.
