In the case of the Waiapu murder, at half-past 12 last night the jury brought in the following verdict: That the said Hiria "Whakaaru, on the 28th August, on a terrace above the Waiatauto Creek, near to Awanui, (was found dead, there appearing marks of violence on and inside her body, the said marks being, in the opinion of the jurors, inflicted by Heuare Rete and Reneamene, which caused her to die. They also made this presentiment :—That the action taken by the Committee (Native) at Waiomataiua relative to the investigation of the cause of the death of the deceased is worthy of the highest commendation and praise. The evidence taken before the said Committee, and re-taken at this enquiry, has very much assisted the jurors in arriving at the verdict.
