WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following is the conclusion of our report of yesterday's meeting of this Council ;—•
The Inspector's report the state of roads and the work done during the month was read and approved. Mr. Thomson, in accordance with notice, moved—" That in the event of any private railway company using the Upper Waitaki Bridge, this Council be refunded one-half of its contribution."
Mr. Morton seconded. Mr. W. Sutherland moved as an amendment that their previous resolution be adhered to, without any provision.
Mr. Johnston seconded the amendment. After some discussion the amendment was carried.
Mr. Murcott moved, " That tenders be called for the construction of Hampden Pound."—Agreed to.
Mr. Morton called attention to the necessity for improving about two chains of road at Kakanui wharf. The Engineer was instructed to have the work carried out. Accounts to the amount of L 1214 2s. 9d. were passed for payment. Mr. Duncan moved, "That the Government be requested to remove the restrictions on threshing engines crossing the Waitaki Railway Bridge, or, if not, to provide a crane for the purpose of lifting the engines on trucks." It was agreed that the Chairman should bring the matter before the Government on his return to Wellington. The Council then adjourned.
