WAITAKI ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday, when there were present —Messrs. Evans (in the chair), Easton, Procter, Aitchison, Borrie, Borton, Con-
Nell, Davidson, Duncan, Schluter, Nicolls, and Oliver (Engineer). The minutes of last ordinary meeting and of the annual meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved.
A letter from the N.Z.L. and M.A. Co., re right of road, and the Board's Solicitors' opinion thereon were read, and it was resolved that the Company be asked to take such steps as may be necessary for the placing of the Board in possession of the fee simple of the land required for the road in question. The Clerk of the Waiareka Board again wrote intimating that the Board could not see its way to altering its previous decision re road on boundary of the two districts. It was resolved that the Waiareka Board be written to asking whether, in ihe event of the Waitaki Board carrying out the work, it (the Waiareka Board) would undertake to defray half the amount out of next rate.
The Sub-Committee appointed to report upon the redistribution of the district fund reported that after taking into account the assets and liabilities, they found that the sum of L 2951 6s. lid. was available for distribution, and recommended that in consideration of special claims there be allocated to Papakaio and Awamoko Subdivisions the sum of L2OO each, leaving a divisible balance of L 2551 6s. lid. This sum the Committee recommended to be divided in proportion to the amount of general rates collected in each Sub-division as follows, viz., Landon, L7OO 35.; Weymouth, LB5l 4s. 4d.; Papakaio, X<93o 14s. 7d.; Awamoko, L6O ss.
Some discussion took place upon the report, which was eventually adopted. Mr. Duncan dissenting. Mr. Connell, in accordance with notice, moved " That this Board adopt the provisions of the Local Elections Act, 1876." The motion was seconded by Mr. Borrie, and agreed to, and it was further resolved ' i That a public meeting of ratepayers be held on the 24th instant, at Pukeuri Schoolhouse, at 5 p.m., to confirm the resolution of the Board."
The Engineer's report having been read, it was resolved to inform the petitioners for a bridge on the road-line between blocks I. and 111., Papakaio, that the Board could not see its way to take any action in the matter at present. The matter of fencing road-line through Mr. M'Master's paddock was referred to Mr. Procter and the Engineer, with power to act.
C. Shine's tender for contract No. 63, L4B 145., and P. Corcoran's for contract No. 65, L 449 12s. 3d., were acoepted. After a discussion on the question of the rate for the current year, it was decided that a general rate of 9d. in the £ be levied, and that the members for each Sub-division be a Sub-Committee to bring up a report as to works necessary therein. The following notices of motion were then tabled : —By Mr. Duncan—" That in future the rates, with subsidies thereon, he spent within the Sub-divisions within which they are raised." By Mr. Borrie—"That the hour of meeting be altered to 11.15 a.m. Accounts amounting to L 126 13s. 9d. having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned.
