• [FROM ODR OWN .:< iKKESPONDENT. j DUNEDIN. September 7. Messrs. Cargills, Gibbs and Co.'s wool telegram, dated 2nd instant, says;— " During the last few days there has been much less animation in the wool market. For good wools there is always brisk competition, but the bulk of the supplies sell rather easier." The illuminations last night were very effective. The electric light was exhibited in two banks, Custom house, aid '.V ■■.■■< Hotel. There were fully 15,000 peoi. the streets, and the crowd was xuoar, orderly. To-day the visitors went to Lawrence and Mosgiel. The Governor opened the Carnival at 2 p.m. The statement that the Dunedin glee party were treated badly in Christchurch is untrue. They experienced every consideration and unsullied enjoyment during the trip. It was their original intention to have sung for the patients in the Sunnyside Lunatic Asylum,- but Mr. Seager, the manager, being absent at a concert, the idea was abandoned. Although not present at the Christchurch banquet, it was because it was not their intention to do so, and no fault of the Christchurch people.
