The Evening Mail. FRIDAY, SEPT. 6, 1878.

Several alterations have been made in the times of departure of trains from Oamaru. The trains for Timaru and the Xorth will leavo at 7.15 a.m., 11.55 a.m. (through train), and 4 p.m. And for the Maerewhenua branch at 6.55 a.m. and 3 30 p.m. The Waiareka will leave as heretofore. Fur the South, including Dunedin, trains will leave at 6.50 a.m., 3.20 p. in. (through train), and 3 45 p.m. We are informed that, in response to a response to a rique-t, Mr. Sumpter has consented to allow his new store, in whiob the luncheon took place to-day, to remain open for inspection, with its decorations, until Monday. Pressure on our space compels us to hold ever 15 letters, for which we shall endeavor to tind room in our next issue. A memo, from the Telegraph Office informs us that communication has been restored on the Singapore cable. Through a printer's error a mistake occurred in the list of office-bearers ap pointed afc the meeting of the North Otago Coursing Club. Mr. E. Menlove was elected President, and Messrs. M'Auly and G. fc>. Lintott Vice-Presidents The meeting of the Mechanics' Institute Co-nmittfe which should have he n held last evening did not eventuate owing to the paucity of the attendance. The Volunteers do not apparently intend to permit the festivities of to-day to ch'Se abruptly, as they animuuce that a dance will bo held this evening in the Volunteer Hall, commencing at 7 o'clock. Admission is restrie'ed to Volunteers, who are entitled to introduce one friend.
