ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir, —I am one who seriously thinks that the savants of Oamaru are fast becoming over-wise in their own conceit. For, in the leading article of your contemporary of this morning, would like to raise if possible a tocsin about the intended removal of the passengers station further north. Why should it not be removed ? Will the extended requirements of the goods traffic not be sufficient for those speculators in buildings and properties on the Harbor Board Block (originally recreation reserves for a BovJe-. varde, &c.)? Have not the business people in Thamea-street and the north portion of the town just as much right to think that hitherto the savants have had a manopoly? and now hope to reap a share of the benefits of the figure operations of the railway passengers trains. The business people and property holders ought strenuously to push forward their claim, and get up a petition to aid Mr. Conyers in the new site—for it to be either on the Esplanade or the old Cricket Ground. Why is one savant in particular to carry out his hobby in getting the Lagoon filled up, when it ought in all justice be kept sacred for future dock purposes in its shipping interests. But more anon on that questibn, as it involves the Harbor Works and the well-being of the harbor. Oamaru, August 31. Citizen.
