OAMARU HOSPITAL.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the above institution was held last evening. There were present :—Messrs. T. H. Brown (President, in the chair), Mainland, Steward, Kerr, Montagu, Morris, Headland, Jones, Lemon (Hon. Treasurer), and Church (Secretary). The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The following report of the Alsiting Committee was read :

August 19, IS7S. The President of the Hospital Committee. Sir,—Your Visiting Committee have to report that they paid their usual visit to the Hospital on Saturday, the 17th instant, and found everything going on satisfactorily.

They have to report that there are now 15 patients in the building—3 females and 12 males—one or two of whom may be expected to leave the institution at an early date. | They have, however, to state that three fresh applications for admission have been seceivfd, and rejected for want of room. They have the pleasure to report that the contract for the southern wing has been entered upon, and it is to be hoped that the contractors will push forward the work as rapidly as possible, increased accommodation being urgently required. Your Visiting Committee have further pleasure in informing your Committee that the following gifts of trees have been bestowed upon the institution since last meeting, viz. : Messrs. Stemson and Leigh, ;3S arbor-vibes; Mr. John Main, 30 do.", and one spruce lir. These trees have been planted in the grounds to the approval of your Visitintf Committee.

They submit accounts; aggregating UG 4s. And remain, &c, Alex. Kekk n. S. Montagu .James P.vrer.sux. The Collector's report for the month showed a total of subscriptions and donations of LlO 12s. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Headland, seconded by Mr. Mainland, " That the thanks of the Committee be tendered to Messrs. St'iuson and Leigh, John Main, and Parerson, for their very haudsoni" gifts of trees and shrubs."

Mr. Montagu said iv ■. understood that in cases of emergency i had '.aen arranged to use the fever ware'.

Mr. Mainland said he believed there were some cases of typhoid-fever in town, and it was possible that the fever ward would be required for its legitimate purpose.

The Visiting Committeo's report was adopted.

Accounts to the amount of L4ij 4s. were passed for payment. Mr. Paterson drew attention to the fact that tracts were delivered at the Hospital, and said that many of the patients obp ct-d to this being done. As he understood that the distribution of tracts was contrary to the rules, he would suggest tiifit the rules should be enforced. The Secretary said that there was no rule on the subject.

The Chairman remarked that the delivery of tracts was not desirable, and he had orcWid its discontinuance.

The foli.o\vinar tenders for supplies were accepted :—Mills, J. C. Black. 3]d. per quart: meat, Henry Fry, 4d. per lb.: U'rocerios and medical comforts, Spence and Bee : coal, John Orr, L2 l(Js. It. was decided to obtain a lactometer for the use of the Hospital in order to secure that none but pure milk be supplied to the institution.

Messrs. Paterson, Kerr, and Montagu were re-appointed a Visiting Committee. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings.
