MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Municipal Council was held last; evening. There were present.— His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Humph' y. Procter, Mainland, Gibbs, Spence, Hamilton, and Headland.

The minutes of last meeting' worn road and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. A letter from the Resident Engineer, Christchurch, was read with reference to the railway siding on the Esplanade, and it was decided that the Mayor should arrange the matter with Mr. Conyers. Mr. Alexander Smillio's application to put a drain under the footpath opposite section 4-, block XLY., was granted, tin work to be done subject to the direction of the Engineer, and stone pipes to be used. A renewal of Messrs. Williams and TSentley's lease of a portion of the Esplanade, was granted for one year. An application for the transfer of th" 1 "itso of section 20, block LI., to Mrs. Ellen Millin, was referred to the solicitor for his opinion. It was resolved that the account ol Messrs. Smith, Anderson, and Co., in connection with the conveyance of land purchased from the N.Z.L.A. Laud Company be passed for payment. The solicitors wrote, advising that the papers in connection with the waterworks had been received duly completed, and that the moneys due might be paid. It was resolved that the Finance Committee have authority to pay the amount due. Mr. E. Clarkson obtained permission to construct a right-of-way into section 10, block XX., ouse-street, subject to the supervision of the Engineer, tin crossing to bo shingled or metalled. A large number of objections haviri'j been received from owners of land to th; kerbinir, channelling, <&c., of the .footpaths in Coquet-street. it was decided not to carry out the work. The Bye-laws Committee wore directed to revise the Bye-laws, and report as r.< any amendments or additions necessary.

Tho matters of the levels of Arun street, from Wharf-street to Ure-street were referred to the Works Consiaitt■!>-' with power to issue the uooossary notice.-. The Gusworks Committee was author ised to call fox- tenders for certain addition? ro the retort house, and for six months supply of coal.

It was resolved to call for tenders in Dimedin, Christchurch, and Oainaru foi the supply of the necessary pipes, &c.. for the waterworks—to he in by the 2Gtl: inst., at noon. Accounts to the amount of L 221 lis. lOd, having been passed for payment, the Council rose.
