The region to the south, is to form practically an independent autonomous province called Eastern Rounielia, paying and governed by a Hospodar. appointed for live or ten years, the Powers having the power of veto over the Sultan's nomination. A national celebration has occurred in Paris. There was an immense demonstration. Forty thousand troops were reviewed. The Rousseau Centenary was celebrated by a great illumination by the socialists at Geneva. The success of the Australian cricketers has produced a desire on the part of the Colonial residents in England to mark their appreciation of their achievements by entertaining them at a banquet at Willis' Rooms on July 23rd. A very influential committee has been formed including several late Governors, the majority of the Agents-General, and other well-known colonists, to carry out the necessary arrangements. The Lord Chancellor announced that he would introduce a Bill dealing with middle class education. Mr. Courtenay's annual measure, granting the woman's franchise, was rejected in the House of Commons. A motion for inquiring into the grievances of the Cork tenantry was also rejected. A Dutch loan of three million guilders has been issued. The markets are firm for Manchester goods, China grev shirting, shop, 7d to 9d ; China yarn, 9|d to 9|d for 1G by 24. The Geographical Society will dispatch another African exploration party.
