[YrOH Oril OWN COKRESVONDENT.] Dunedin, Augnst 5. The following cablegrams appear in the Dunedin Star : London, August 4. Earl Beaconsfield, at the Mayor's banquet yesterday, said that by the Congress the peace of Europe had been preserved, and a check given to the Russian military party, whilst the wealthiest portion of Russia's conquest had been returned to Austria, thus checking Slavonic'' conspiracies. He believed the present peace would be enduring, and expressed a hope that he would be able on a future { occasion to address the people. The Lord Mayor in his speech remarked j on the revival of trade. During the proceedings a message was received, promising the Government ii\ majority of 133 on the foreign policy! debate, the reading of which was re- i ceived with enthusiasm. |
