NEW ZEALAND RACE-HORSES IN MELBOURNE.

In noticing the arrival of the New Zea- '• land candidates for the Melbourne Cup, 1 "Argus" writes:—"The JS T ew Zealand candidates, Le Loup and Trump Card, arrived on Saturday evening, but were not landed until the following afternoon, when they were at once taken to their comfortable quarters at Mr. W. E. Dakin's stables. I saw them both in their boxes, and there is no mistake about their being two splendid representatives. They lvniiml ine a great deal of the other famous pair, Lurline and Calumny, Le Loup being wry like his distinguished sister, except that he is a chesmit in color, but has the same white face so remarkable in the Tradueer family. He stands quite 10 hands, and, so far as appearatices go, he is a race-horse in the true sense of the term. Like Calumny, Trump Card is a horse of beautiful quality, with plenty of power all through. His head, neck, and' shoulders are all that could be desired, and he inherits from Sir Hercules that grand roundness of barrel so noticeable in Otto, the Barb, Calumny, and orhers. His quarters are round and musoular, and there is great power in his lower thighs, while the hocks are remarkably well let down. His fore legs shows signs of blistering he received, but they will soon fine down, and when he strips aL I Melbourne I think the universal verdict ! will be that a more evenly shaped and gentlemanly colt never trod the green sward of Fiemington. JV'th horses are full big, and I question very muoh if Mr. Dakiu will be able to get them thoroughly fit for the Melbourne Cup ; but later in the season, one, if not both, of these fine sons of Tradueer will make a distinctive mark upon the Australian turf. The admirable manner in which they were landed reflects great credit upon Mr. Yallance, who came over in charge of them."
