WELLINGTON. July 25. Captain Humphries has been appointed Usher of the Black Rod for the Legislative Council. July 26. It is announced that the Hon. Mr. Macandrew has resigned the portfolio or Secretary of Lands, and that the Hon. Mr. Stout has been appointed thereto. Mr. Stout will retain the office of Aftorney-Geni-ral, and Mr. Macandrew remains Minister of Public Works.
DUNEDIN. July 25. Mr. Watt, R.M., has compih,-d a list of Justices of the Peace to take thu business in the Police Court during the next three months. The Head Office of the Public Works Department for the Middle Island is to be located here.
AUCKLAND. July 25. At a Conference of School Committees, it was proposed to petition the Assembly to tb tine the power and privileges of Committees. Complaint is made lhat the Act provides that Committees shall he consulted in regard to the appointnu-nt of teachers, and this has not been done by the Education Board. Mr. James Dii worth declines fo accept a seat in the Legislative Council, owing to ill health. CHRISTCHURCH. July 26. At a meeting last night, it was resolved that the proposed Working Men's Club and Hotel should be conducted on strictly temperance principles. The Hon. John Hall, Messrs. A. Duncan and John Grigg have been appointed delegates to represent the Canterbury Agricultural Association at the Oamaru conference respecting the establishment of a National Agricultural Society for the Middle Island. "
