The Council has resolved to discontinue a direct subscription in money to the Fire Brigade, 011 the ground that a free water supply, and maintenance of tire-plugs, is a sufficient contribution, and that the insurance companies should pay more. The Mayor is requested to bring the question forward for discussion at the Municipal Conference, with a view to obtaining aid from the Legislature, as in the Australian Colonies, for the support of fire brigades.
