Captain Jones, left the Breakwater at the usual hour last evening, with a large number of passengers and a Waitaki, Captain Edie, arrived in port this afternoon from Dunedm, with a fair number of passengers and good C *The s.s. Tairna, Captain Wheeler, arrived in port this morning at 10 o'clock, froni Lyttelton. She wilt probably sail again this evening for Northern ports. The barquentine Vixen, Captain Stephens, arrived yesterday, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal consigned to J. Orr. The three-masted schooner Garron, Capt. Bishop, came into port this afternoon from Newcastle, after a passage of fourteen days. She brings a cargo of coal for Messrs. J. and T Meek. The ketch Awake Belle arrived early this morning from Catlin's River, with a cargo of timber for C. Oalbraith and Co. The barque Letterfourie has finished loading, and will take her departure for the Cape of flood Hope this evening. The schooner Isabella Pratt wilt sail this evening for Napier, with a cargo of produce.
SHIPPING TKLEGRAMS. Wkstfokt, July 15. The steamer Resnlt, which trades between Westport and Karamea, was wrecked at t> p.m. on Thursday last, abont half way from the Karamea. She was in the surf several hours. There are no lives lost. The cause of the stranding of the p.s. •Result at Kararrua was no light being shown at the signal station. Warden Broad, Postmaster Shrimpton, and Alex. Stltt, of Weßtport. were anion'.' the passengers, and were all safetv landed, but they suffered much from exposure. Edwards and Company, of .Nelson, have telegraphed to send a steamer to the assistance of the vessel. Wanuasci, JrLY 15. The three-masted schooner Elterton. from j Auckland, was signalled yesterday outside' the Heads, lying safely at anchor. During the night the anchors must have dragged. Th.H morning she was discovered among«t the breaker*, riding heavily at anchor, bows I on to the surf, iiali-way down to the South Spit, in a dangerous position. The wind having moderated, there ts now a better ehanee of her getting off. The schooner {•West Queen is in a very dangerous position alcove the bridge. The wind failed her in passing through this morning, and a strong fre*h carried" her against the piles, heeling over to such an extent as to threaten a capsize. The foremast was just cut away in time to save the vessel. The fore-part is now under the bridge, still in a very dangerous position. They are unable to discharge on the bridge and so tighten her, as the cargo is too heavy. Lyttkltos, July !•■>. The ship Columbus has arrived. She left Cravi-s..'i),i on March 2lst. reached Deal next day, cleared the Channel on March STith. crossed the Kquator on April I'b'th, and pa«s.;.l the meridian of the Cape on June 2. She met with some heavy weather while running down her easting. One sea broke on hoard on June Ib'th. Hooding the decks and cabin, and doing other damage. She sighted Ota-go- Headset noon on Saturday. She brings 7 passengers, alt well.
