WELLINGTON.
July 5. The Hon. Mr, Burns, PostmasterGeneral of New South Wales, and the Hon. Mr. Fisher, Postmaster-General of New Zealand, have made proposals to Colonel Glover, involving fresh terms with the Company as to the tariff charges for cable messages to and from Australia. Probably a reduction in present charges will be the result. Colonel Glover lias telegraphed to the Board of Directors of the Eastern Extension Company at London for instructions. The Hulls. Colonel Whitmore, Messrs. Fisher and Burns, with Colonel Glover and Dr. Lemon, leave for Nelson and Wakapuaka per Hinemoa to-morrow, and will return on Monday. The Colonial Museum will be opened for the first time on Sundays next Sunday, from 2 till 4 o'clock p.m. July 6. Mr. Crawford, R.M., took his seat for the last time on the Bench this morning. The members of the Wellington bar seated him with a complimentary address, and the members of the local Press also made him a haqdsome present. Mr. Crawford presented the Clerk of the Co.nrt with a handsomely-chased silver goblet, and Inspector Atcheson with a silver hooped-fiagon. Mr. Mansfovd, the new Resident Magistrate, takes his seat on Monday for the i'irst time.
