THE MAYORALTY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir,—l agree with your leader of last night, and think it high time the citizens took the initiatory in selecting a gentleman to fill the Mayoral chair for the ensiling 12 months. If it is left to the last, moment, the present occupant will be re-elected, and the Corporation funds, sinor and all as they are at present, will ■ f-.rther reduced by paying another Hilary of not less than L2OO Tins poorer • e got, the more exp isiv ; bee mos our management of muiiß'.lp.il affairs. There are men in Oaniaru who are able, ay, and willing to do tae work without a salary, but they object to be pitted against a man who evidently considers that he and another, viz., the Hon. M. Holmes, should be sole managers of everything in the district, vide the excellent manner in which they arranged the matter (of the two reserves) between the Corporation and the N.A. and P. Association. The present Mayor is not the man that we require. He dons very well if talking would do the work, but as it will not, let us have a man who will talk less and work more. I am, &c., Citizen. June 27, 187 S.
