Lloyd ; Flag Steward, Mr. Alex. Thomson. .

The following is continuation of onr report of yesterday : Shortly before four o'clock yesterday afternoon a start was made to run off the first ties, and so rapidly were they got through that tho whole of them had boon decided before it was deemed necessary to cease operations for the day. The fi;-st pair of cloy* placed in the slips were Mabel and Hazel. A capital run took place, the latter proving the winner. Waterloo and Camellia ran a.n undecided course, and then Trooper and Sunbeam had as fine a course as could well be wished, but Sunbeam proved the best dog, and won with something to spare. Hamlet and Le Bravo, the next pair, had a splendid run, the former proving the winner. Waterloo and Camellia then met to run off their nndeeided course, Waterloo winning after a short bur. sharp run. Ga- : Bella wen a capital course with Ophelia, .and after a short but not very satisfactory run, Ladybird disposed of tiyp. Then came one of the very, best and most exciting contests of the day—the match between Mr. Paterson's Spring and Mr. Mason's Mechanic. Both dogs ran exceedingly well, though Spring had somewhat the best of it throughout and won the course grandly. It is scarcely asserting ton much to say that Spring showed himself to be the fastest dog on the ground, though at working he was not equal to several others, including his opponent Mechanic. This closed the proceedings for the day, and a start was made for Oamaru, which was reached in good time, after wading or riding through an ocean of mud.
