The Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 1878.
At last, after a lengthened period of nearly eighteen months, the Corporation have succeeded in obtaining from the Government the gazetting of the valuable endowment of something like 2000 acres, promised to them long ago by previous Ministers. This conies just in the nick of time, and will assist the Corporation greatly at this juncture in financing for the public works that are in contemplation. The knowledge that the endowment has been actually gazetted will have the effect of instilling even greater confidence than already exists in the minds of onr debenture holders at Home, and will, if we are not very much mistaken, go far to float a supplementary loan that, wo have no doubt, will be required for the completion of our Waterworks. It is well known that few Waterworks schemes were ever yet completed without such an addendum attached to them. We congratulate the Corporation npon the acquisition of this valuable endowment.
