MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

■ ♦ The regular fortnightly meeting of the Council was held last evening ; present— His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Procter, Mainland, and Headland. Telegrams were read from the Hon. Mr. Macandrew, Minister for Lands, and Mr. Eliott, Under-Secretary for Lands, stating that the Municipal Endowment of 1771 acres, and certain pieces of land within the municipality would be gazetted yesterday.

A letter from Mr. John Somerville, complaining of the state of Ken-street, was referred to the Works Committee for report.

Mr. G-. S. Cooper, Under-Secretary, wrote asking for information as to the amount contributed by the Municipality towards the Indian Famine Relief Fund. —The information to be supplied.

A letter from Mr. Kerr with reference to the drain in Humber-street, was referred to the Works Committee for a report.

On the application of Mr. Amos, the lease of the gasworks cottage was transferred to Mr. Laing. A letter, with balance-sheet, from the trustees of the Municipal Sinking Fund, having been read, the Finance Committee was instructed to make arrangements for the payment of the debentures falling du<in September nest.

It was resolved that the revenue arising from the Municipal Endowment, being 1771 acres in Block IX., Maei-ewhenua district, and 229 acres or thereabouts in Block 111., Awamoko, being together 2,000 acres, bo act asido in aid of Waterworks Revenue, and paid in as accruing into tlio bank to waterworks account, towards meeting interest and sinking fund of the LOO,OOO loan. It was also resolved, that the members for the district be requested to bring in a bill empowering the Education Board to transfer the portions of land vested in said Board necessary for road to Bush Reserve at the Cape, and for the waterworks, and that the Education Board be requested to join in promoting tlio said bill.

Tlio Assistant Engineer reported, detailing the progress of tlio works at the inlet, waterworks contract. Tho manager of the gasworks having written condemning the quality of the coal supplied, the matter was referred to the Gasworks Committee.

The accounts amounting to L 1,021 3s. 2d. (including L2S2, progress payment on waterworks contract) were passed for payment.
