DUXEDIN. I May 27. Margaret Williams, well known to the polico,°was found dead in South Reereation Ground yesterday morning. A bottle of spirits was found lying alongside her. The T'-nii'j says that it is reported, on what is stated 'to be the best authority, that Mr Bums' resignation for Roslyn is contingent on the prospects of Mr. Roberts, of Murray and Roberts, coining o:a as a candidate, and that Mr. George M'Lean is urging hint strongly to stand. It is stated that Mr. Burns will not be allowed to resign unless a staunch supporter of the Atkinson party is tolerably sure of being elected. The Loan and Mercantile Agency's cablegram, dated 22nd May, says .that the wool sales progress iirmly. Seedy and burry sorts are neglected. Up to date, 00,000 bales wore sold. Jn most of the city churches yesterday, reference was made to the coach accident from the pulpit. Dr. Moran stated at St. Joseph's Church yesterday, that the building of the Catholic Cathedral was to be commenced forthwith. The naive and aisles are to be slatted at a cost of LG,OOO, of which L 3500 is already promised. When ! finished, the building will cost L2G,000.
