Back, Amos, and . j Smith, of the- railway department, while ; [ there was a great deal of confusion as to what ought to be done, at Moeraki. The pronipMtude and good service rendered by .Ur. Back drew from every one pre- I , sent great praise, as also did the manner n winch Messrs. Amos and Smith cooperated with him. I hope you will not rhink that I am trespassing upon your privilege in thus writing, but it is well, j think, that when officials show such readiness and ability under circumstances of such emergency, their efforts ought to be made fully known and appreciated by the public. As an eyewitness, I wish to supplement your statement of the circumstances witnessed by me.—l am, &c, S. E. Shrimskj.
