[from our own CORRESPONDENT.] ♦ Dunedin, May 15. The following special cablegram has been received by the Star : A terrible fire has occurred at Manilla. Famine and outlawry are also prevalent. The coffee, sugar, and rice crops are all affected by the drought. Thousands are dying. "Russian war vessels are near Manilla. The English men-of-war have left the American ports with orders probably for war. The cable is working badly ; a steamer has been laid on. The crew of the Swan, from Cooktown for New Guinea, mutinied, and left the captain on Savage Island, and then proceeded on the voyage. Sydney, May 16. A report has reached Cooktown this morning that there has been a great gold discovery of quartz alluvial shales. A steamer has left for Now Zealand with mo Chinese. The Manilla mgar crop shows a 30 per cent. loss.
