Austria refuses Russia's advances and acts separately. Some working men mobbed the Bromley Unionist Committee and assaulted the Blackburn Committee for refusing relief during the strike to non-unionists. Two thousand men at the North British Railway struck against the increase of the working hours from 51 to 54 per week. The Duke of Coimanglit's betrothal to the Princess Louise, daughter of Prince Frederic Charles of Germany, takes place on May 9th.

Representatives were present from all nations, and from several of the BritishColonies. The attendance was very great, although it was raining. The interior presented a grand spectacle, and altogether the Exhibition surpassed that of 1866. The Colonial courts are well filled, and excite much interest. Victoria is best represented, exhibiting its progress and the multiplicity of its resources. The show of wools is very good. The Prince of Wales presented tne Colonial Commissioners to Marshal MatMahon. Paris is I crowded with visitors from all parts of the world.
