TIMAKU. We copy the following stock reports from the Thnamt Herald. Messrs Jonas and Hart report for the week ending Saturday April 6th na follows : Fat cattle are not too plentiful. Their transactions for the week are only 21 head (which were prime) at LlO ss, being fullyequal to 27s per lOOlbs. Stores. —The market maybe said tobeovercrowded. They have offered a large number during the week, the majority of which were sold at prices considerably below previous quotations. They quote : heifers and steers, IS months to 2 years, L 5 5s to IS 5s ; do yearlings, L 3 15s to L 4 ss; calves, Ll 10s to L2 os. Milch Cows.—"Well-bred cows in full profit are saleable. Their transactions show from LlO 5s to Lls. Sheep.—The protracted dry weather has interfered considerably with the sale of the sheep, and has also caused a large reduction in prices which might have been fairly anticipated. Their transactions show for crossbred hoggets, 7s Ud to S-t fid; half and three-quarter-bred lamb 3, 5s 9d to Cs 6d ; merino ewes, 3s to .'id i)d. Horses. —A large number were entered for sale at their yards to-day, all of which changed hands at good prices. Those advertised on accuiint of Dr Fisher, and bred upon his station, Grampian Hills, realised paying rates, showing that stock of this class can be profitably bred in the district. The colts and fillies offered were of good stamp, from 2 to 4 years old, the prices for which ranged from L 37 to LSO. From the sale generally, they qnotefor other kinds: heavy staunch draughts, from LSO to L6O ; medium or plongh horses, from L3S to L4S ; light do. from L2S to L3(t • hacks and light harness horses, from LS 10s to L 26. Messrs D. and L. Maclean report the following transactions for the past week.Draught Horses. —At King's Yards to-day a large number came forward (including a shipment of young stock from Taranaki), meeting a good market. Superior, L4l to L6O, medium, L 25 to L 39.
Country Sales. —At Temuka, on April 2nd, 60 head of store cattle were sold, for, cows, L 3 ; 15 to IS month steers and heifers, 14 to L 5 10s. 1200 merino ewes weip disposed of privately after the sale. At Winchester Fair, on the 3rd, a larger number of sheep and cattle came forward than is nsnally the case at these sales. Steers and heifers, L 4 to US 10a ; cross-bred wethers, fat, 7s 3d to 9s. At Pleasant Point, on the 4th, the lease of the Point Park, 67 acres, for one crop, was disposed of at auction to Mr. Henry Matthews for 27s per acre; 500 crossbred ewes, 7s 6d to S3 ; 150 do. lambs, 5s 3d ; 250 merino ewes, 2s lOd to 3s. On the sth, on behalf of Mr. John Kelland, at his farm, Washdyke Gorge, though the attendance was not so large as might have been expected for such grand stock as his, still the bidding was fairly spirited, and tiie dairy cows were all sold, some reaching as high as LI9 10s. and averaging altogether Lll each. Springing heifers, Lo" to 1.6 10s; yearling heifers and steers, L 3 10s to L 4 10s ; one ball calf by Master Carlos {ridt herd book), 20 guineas ; merino ewes, 3s to 3s Id.
