The Oarnaru and Dunediu Steamship Co.'s s.s. Waitaki. Captain Kdie. arrived in port a few minutes before one o'clock to-day, troiii Dunedin. with a number of passengers and 4f> tons of cargo. She left at S t."> a.m.. and experienced strong head winds and hazy •weather. The p.s. Samson. Captain Jones. lt-tt for Dunedin at the usual hour last evening, •with a fair number of pas.-eiigers and a good cargo. The brigantine Helena. Captain Campbell. arrived this morning from the Thames. which place vl, f . left on the 13th inst. She experienced light winds throughout, winch accounts for the length of her passage. The Helena brings about 100.1101) f- et of timber, consigned to Mr. »!. Snn.pter. The brigantine Ethel. Captain MT.eod, sailed last evening for Timaru, in bal!a-t. The ship Western Monarch, Captain Watson, arrived at Port Chalmers, on Sunday. from London, after a passage of 7S days from land to land. She sighted the ship Wild Deer, from (.dasgow to Otago, on the 12th February. The ship Piako left Port Chalmers last Saturday with 42 passengers and a cargo valued at Lt3t,D34.
