TO THE EDITOR OF THK EVENING MAIL. Sir—Tlio extract from t.lu> Dunedin Star regarding the recent. competition at. Springfield, and your remarks thereupon, published in hist evening's issue, c;i 11 for these observations from an " agricultural mind." Who was the telegraphist that supplied the Star with the telegram and acconipanying commentary on the trial at Springfield? How does their judgment on that occasion necessarily imply ignorance on tho part of the Oamaru fanners, as telegraphist sneeringly asserts it does I Are the Oamaru farmers hound to accept as best the machine, whose only claim to favor is that it manages to finish the piece allotted it, because another, whose style of work they infinitely prefer, has the misfortune to break its knife driving bar. Does the agent of any machine show discretion in holding up to ridicule the very persons upon whose support, he is dependent ! What interest had telegraphist in doing this I—l am, itc., Uxk.nlu;iiti:n.ei> Aouierr.TntisT.
