DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
The first squad of the Artillery competed this morning at 6 a.m. for the prizes in the Government district firing,' Sub-Lient. Morris, of No. 1 Company, being the officer in charge. The ranges were 200. 300, and 400 yards; Wimbledon targets ; any position: five .rounds at each range. The weather was most favourable for the firing. The scoring of the morning squad we give below, Gunner Filleul being highest with a score of 44 points, Corporal Roulston coming next with 41. It is only fair to mention that the carbine of Captain Morton turned out to be a bad one, it being to hit the target with it at the 200 yards range, lie* therefore fired with fcsergeantMajor Holdsworth's carbine after the second round, and succeeded in making 11 pom s.
