WAITAKI COUNTY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Council of the A\ ;iitaki County Acclimatisation Society ivas held this morning at the County Council Olisunlmrs. Then; were present —Messrs. lleid (in the chair). (("Meagher, liorfon, Ronayne, Steward, Allen, Council (Kmi. Secretary), and Dr. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was also read, including the telegram rt white fish ova. Amongst- the inward correspondence was a telegram from Mr. .A. Thomson agreeing to accept the position of ranger in (lie southern portion of the district, in the place of the late Mr. Wheatly. It was decided to recommend to the Government that the months of .Tune anil July should lie declared the open season for pheasant, shooting. The season for coursing hares was fixed for May, June, and July. It was resolved to iisk the Government t.o declare the Waitaki district exempt from the operation of any license issued for shooting hares. It was decided ihat the season for shooting native game was fixed to extend from the Ist April to the 31st July. On the motion of Mr. Steward, it was decided to offer one shilling per head for nil heads of shags shot within tin; district, to tie delivered to any member of the Council.

Mr. Angus Ross, of Otepopo. was appointed a ranger under the >S icietv. The licensing fees for shootingpheasants and for coursing hares were each fixed at 30s.

Mr. Connell moved, and Mr. O'Meagher seconded, "That it be a recommendation to the Government that a reward lie offered for the introduction of white fish by private effort, the reward to he advertised in the United States."—The motion was carried.

Tin; Secretary was authorised to engage a collector and pay liim 10 per cent, for collecting all outstanding subscriptions. Dr. Smith was empowered to catch and forward a small number of goldfinches to Canterbury, for liberation near the Washdyke.

Several accounts were passed for payment.

The meeting then proceeded with the election office-bearers, the result being as follows : —President, Mr. John lleid ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. Borton and Steward ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr. H. Connell. It was decided to meet in future at Mr. ConnelFs office. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairmail terminated the proceedings.
