AUCKLAND. February 11. Intelligence has been seeived here of the death of Mrs. wife of the Bishop of Melanesia, at St. Barnabas, Norfolk Island, on the 30 th ult., of fever, following the birth of a daughter. She was the daughter of Colorol Innes, of New South Wales, and' iras married to the Bishop of Melanesia in England in 1872. She leaves four children. Mr. H. Brett, mayor, gave a picnic to the eripketers, pouncillors, and prominent citizens,, to the number of a 100. at his residence at Lake Takapuna to-day. The Hon. Mr. Whitaker presded at the dinner. The toasts of the Mayor, the Australians, and the Auckland Tventy-two were drunk, and dancing followed. The intelligence of the death of the j Pope caused great sensation.
NAPIER. February 11. The Eight Rev. Wm. Williams, late Bishop of Waiapu, died on B;,tur:lay night. He had beeii in a precarious state for some time. ♦ BALCLUTHA. February 12. Flames were discovered below Cbwie's (saddler) shop, at one this morning, arising from rags saturated with kerosene. If undiscovered another few minutes, the whole block must have been destroyed. —♦ ■ TAUPO. February 12. The Government is going to enlarge the township. _______
