The Governor arrived at 12.20, but there ; are not half-a-dozen people on the grand ; stand. This is partly owing to the high [ charges to the lawn, stand, and paddock, : about which a strong and general dissatis- ■ faction is expressed. There are rather more book-makers than anyone else on the lawn. HURDLE RACE. ; Victor... ... ... ... 1 Tewhetuinanamara ... ... 2 ; Shark ii i Grey Momus, Yiotor, Shark, and Tewhetuinanamara also started. Victor ; took the lead with a bad start, Grey ! Momus being second, with Shark and Tewhetuinanamara last. The first hurdle I was cleared in line style, but Grey Momus ; baulked at the second. Victor was the lirst to pass the grand stand, with a strong lead. At the sixth hurdle Shark baulked, and Grey Momus fell, and after picking himself up baulked again at the . seventh hurdle. Victor's lon<r lead and , clean jumping gave him an oasy chance, Tewhetu being second, 1 WELLINGTON BKUtIV. Trump Card ... 1 ' Chokebore ... ... ... 2 Standard Bearer ... ... ;$ Three horses started for this event, 1 viz., Trump Card, Chokebore, and ' Standard Bearer. The tirst-named was the favorite. All the horses were very fractious. From the start, Standard - Bearer took the lead, with Chokebore second, and Trump Card last. For a ' nuarter of a mile Chokebore and Trump > Card raped neek-and-neck, but Trump ' Card drew gradually and surely ahead, and won easily by a length. Time : 2 mins. 50 sees.
