CAUTION. Parents and Cuaruians, in purchasing Sweets, should ho careful to see that they net a pure article, as those imported have | been proved, by analysis, to contain adul- ' terations of a very injurious nature. I kle the following : Professor Black reports upon 14 Samples of Imported Sweets purchased by Mr. Lumb from various Confectioners in Dunedin f«>r analysis, and of which the following is a resuvvt: — " Fourteen Samples obtained from various Confectioners in Duucdiii. "Nos. 41!) to 432 Sweets are all objectionable, owiiiu to the large quantity of Sulphate of Lime or oth r earthy matter they contain, 'ihe .objuring matter is also objectionable, being partly Prussian Blue. I consider these sweets far inferior in qualicy to those of local manufacture which I have analysed." Professor Black again reports upon 20 Samples taken by Inspector Lumb from the Manufac ory of MESSRS. R. HUDSON AND CO., As follows : j lt . >c Sweets do not ris. Sulphate of Lim-, Starch, Flour, or any objectionable colouring matter, or any deleterious ingredients. The absence of piaster of Paris, or any objectionable colouring matter, recommends them strongly. They are. in my opinion, a very superior article, skilfully manufactured, and should take a good position m the market." H U This prepared I'ood contains iu due proportions all the essentials of good nutritious food. The ratio of the nitrogenous or iieshforming constituents to the non-nitrogenous or heat-producing and respiratory ingredients litiiim I to 5.7 is such as is recognise 1 by the highest authoiiii-.s a< very satisfactory. The in'T'.'.irric .salts found in the asli aro""tliose which" aro always present in good wheat tiour. and are necessary constituents of food. . Ti:e p rcciitage of sugar is a lithe higher than is usually "found in wheat lior.r. This, however, is no disadvantage, and is due probably to the process of manufacture. 1 consider that your mode of preparation gives it the advantage over unpr retaining it. for ami resistiti i:i»iueuce of a damp climate. Ou the whole I can recommend your p.«paratiou as a very digestible, whclesoiuc, and nutritious article of food ; these good qualities will doubtless secure for it a large demand among all classes of the comniuuity.
