NORTH OTAGO BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the North Otago Benevolent Society was '• ild at the Mechanics' Institute last droning. Present—Messrs. Fleming (President), Allen, Ronayne, Kerr, Greenfield, Falconer, and Richmond (Secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, the inward correspondence read, and the Visiting' Committee's report read and adopted. It was resolved that labour be provided to erect a tent for Mrs. Williams, and that 10s. per week be allowed Miss Turnbull for the maintenance of the infant left in her charge. It was moved by Mr. Greenfield, seconded by Air. Falconer, and carried, '' That the Visiting Committee see the police in regard to Mrs. Hutchens, the mother of the infant left in charge of Miss Ttirnbtill." It was moved by Mr. Greenfield, seconded by Mr. Kerr, and carried, " That Mrs. Home's case be referred to the Visiting Committee with power to act,, and that temporary relief be all'ordcd her." A letter was received from the medical superintendent of the Hospital in reference to the ease of a patient named Miller, an incurable, who, it was stilted, was a lit subject for the consideration of the Benevolent Society. A resolution of the Hospital Committee to the effect that Dr. Garland's letter be referred to the Visiting Committee of the Benevolent Society, with a view of having the patient removed from the Hospital, accompanied the letter. It was moved by Mr. Allen, seconded. by Mr. Falconer, and carried, " That the Secretary write to the Secretary of the Hospital stating that this Society has no asylum for incurables, and that they consider that the case of dan. Miller should be rather arranged between the Benevolent Society and the Government." A letter from Mr. .Richmond, resigning ids position as Secretary of the Society, wtis read. Jt was moved by Mr. Falconer, seconded by Mr. Ronayne, and carried, " That the resignation of Mr. Richmond bo accepted with regret. Resolved, "That the Secretary advertise for applications for the Secretaryship three times in I lie week previous to the monthly meeting." It. was proposed by Mr. Allen, seconded by Mr. Falconer, ami earned, " That Mr. Kerr and Mr. Steward be appointed a Visiting Committee for this (the present) month." The report ami abstract of rations of the Manager of the immigration Barracks were read and received. The report stated that there art! only four children in the institution at present, Stutter's four children having been forwarded to him at ; Wellington. The action of the SubComnii/l.co in reference to Stutter's children vft.., confirmed. 1 J.I: was resolved, on the motion of Mr. : Falconer, "'That the President and Mr. Allen be empowered to wait upon tlio ' Hon Mr Larnaeh in reference to M'Lood's case and subsidy. A number of accounts were i ausod, j and the meeting adjourned with the usual ' vote of thanks to the Chairman.
