DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. [reuter's telegrahjs, per press agency.] Sydney, January 31. The Wakatipu arrived yesterday, after a splendid passage of four days eight hours from Wellington. February 1. In the Assembly to-night the Financial Statement was made. The accumulated surplus to the end of the year amounts to two and a. half millions; estimated surplus revenue over expenditure for 1878, L 150,000.
