\\ r E are sure that the announcement which appears in another column desiring the attendance of ladies and gentlemen at I the Masonic Hall next Wednesday even- ! ing to concert measures for the formation of a Choral Society will gratify both practical musicians and lovers of music, and the result will be a good muster. Tiiere is no reason why Oamaru should not possess a most efficient musical society, and a very great many reasons why it should. Even now we know of vocalists who, if they could only be [ brought together for rehearsal, would I give an excellent account of themselves ; and we have a right to assume that there are many others who would identify themselves with a society such as that which it is sought to institute. We presume that the business on next "Wednesday evening will be of a preliminary nature, and that the meeting, having dealt broadly with the question of the establishment of a Choral Society, will leave the detail to be worked up by I officers and committee to be appointed at the meeting. We observe that the ladies and gentlemen who intend to be present are requested to bring with them copies of "The Messiah" and "Creation," This is a cap':; alj/move, and will doubtlesn

have the effect of securing the attendance of many who would not otherwise have responded to the advertisement. The consideration of the question, by the aid of a few of the glorious, spirited choruses of the above works, will be made much more interesting, and those who attend will leave the Hall with a pleasant foretaste of greater musical joys to come.
