THE DISQUALIFICATION OF FISHHOOK. TO TIII2 EDITOIt OF XUK EVKNINO MAIL. One of the hollowcst farces that has been enacted in this district, was the unanimous disqualification, for ever, at last race meeting of the horse Fishhook, in connection with a most flagrant turfswindle ; and the recent removal of the disqualification by the new Committee. So far as Oamaru races are concerned, the fiat of the stewards last season might; as well have never gone forth, as the horse can now run at the coming races. How other clubs will view the action of the North Otago Turf Club in the matter remains to be seen ; but those who love the good old " national spurt," when conducted in a legitimate manner, and have looked with approbation on the resolution of many of the racing clubs to stamp out tho gross abuses that have hitherto disgraced the turf in many instances, will certainly view with suspicion and regret the peculiar idea of justice which a whining letter- produced in the breasts of a majority of the Oanumt Committee. llf yo.ur report of the remarks made by . Mr. Lintott at tho recent meeting is correct, wherein he says that the dishonest servant is infinitely guiltier than the master who orders his subordinate to commit the dishonest action, and who clinches his argunievst by stating that a dishonest jockey oan ex post facto readily find employment., there can be little wonder at the result of the first meeting of tho new Committee of the North Otago Turf Club. Tho remarks of the President and Mr. Steward will commend themselves to every right-thinking member of the community. It might be interesting to note tho eiiect of the Commiitee's action oil the finances of the Club this season,—l am, &c., PiiO P>OXO Puiil.lCO.
