ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

We wish it to be most distinctly understood that we tiro not responsible for the opinions oppressed by/raij. correspondents.] V

THE PRICE OF BREAD.

TO THE EDITOR OF TUB EVENING MAIJt J Sie, —lt is a singular circumstance that on the slightest symptom of a rise in the price of wheat unci ilour the bakers of Oamaru at once combine to increase the price of the four-pound loaf ; while they never think to reduce it when the market becomes, like some of their bread, " flat, stale, and unprofitable." It is well known that neither w'leat nor flour commands thq 3ame price as they did when the bakers felt justified in raising the price of tb,e loaf to 9d., and in my own interest and that of the public, I must ask you to .agitate this question until the price is re? duced to a reasonable rate, —I am, &c, Paterfamilias.
